In 2005 we had the privilege of traveling with a team from Safe Harbor that ministered in Sudan, Kenya, and Uganda.  Much of the trip involved working with children and schools. As school teachers, we were overwhelmed by the challenges in African classrooms.  The dedication of the teachers and the desire of the children for learning was inspiring.  Through the generous support of our brothers and sisters at Cornerstone Fellowship Bible Church, friends and family, we have had the opportunity to take several teams and make several more trips to Uganda.  These visits have focused mostly on coming alongside teachers and ministering to students.  A key focus of providing educational resources for teachers and students was establishing a networked computer lab at Bethel Covenant College.  The lab includes a server that provides a wide variety of educational material in a web based format.

Goals for 2011 Trip  From July 11 to 28

  • Encourage the teachers and staff and Bethel Covenant College (High School), Bethel Junior, and possibly other schools.
  • Train teachers at Bethel Junior School on the use of kindergarten materials donated by Houghten Mifflen.
  • Train teachers and staff in the use of materials, software, and systems already available on the Bethel Covenant sever and network and in the use of Web resources.
  • Continue to provide Internet access for students and staff.
  • Replace the existing server with a new and more capeable one.
  • Replace the motherboards in several computers.
  • Expand the use of NComputing X350 Desktop Virturalization Kits to provide more reliability and less power use.
  • Expand the wireless network at Bethel Covenant to cover the campus.
  • Repair and replace broken and aging equipment in the Bethel Covenant computer lab.

How to Pray for and Support the Trip

  • Pray for opportunities to share with and encourage teachers, staff, and students at the schools we visit.
  • Pray for strength on the long trip to Uganda and during a packed schedule.
  • Donate USB flash drives that you are no longer using for teachers in Uganda.
  • Consider helping to fund the purchase of technology for the schools through Cornerstone Fellowship Bible Church.  Be sure to include a note designating funds for the Uganda trip.
