Case 1: The Contended Constitution
Did the nations founders create a Constitution that fulfilled the reasons people fought in the Revolutionary War and the promises of the Declaration of Independence?
This case sets the stage for all of the other cases. What were the principles and promises on which our nation was created? How well did those who wrote the Constitution do in making these principles a reality?
Task 1: What were the dreams of those who fought in the Revolutionary War and what promises ere made in the Declaration of Independence?
This first task involves students in an investigation of the ideological origins of the Revolutionary War. In this task, students will compare their own world view to some of the ideas that were common to the world view of the founding period. They will then travel back to the founding period to serve as a delegate to the Constitutional Convention. Before attending the Convention, however, they will travel around the town of Williamsburg to question some of the people who were involved in the fight for freedom. Their goal is to find out what motivated people to risk their lives in the Revolution and what they want in a new government.
Questioning the People Interactive
This interactive activity takes students back to the town of Williamsburg at the time of our nation's founding. Student question six people who were involved in the Revolutionary War.
